Editing with the AI assistant
Type the change you want in plain words, and it shows up in your sequence as one undo step. This works in projects only.
Ask for an edit
Open a sequence
Open a project sequence in the editor. See cutting inside a project.
Open the assistant
Click AI Assistant in the project header.
Ask
Say what you want, such as “put the circled take of 4A at the end” or “add a dissolve at every cut”. Editing requests go to the assistant’s editing helper.
Check the result
After an edit, the assistant selects the clips it changed and moves the playhead to the first one. Press ⌘Z to undo it.

What it can do
- Find the project’s takes by shot and take number, circled or not, and put them on the timeline.
- Start a new sequence from a scene’s clip bin on the Editing tab.
- Insert, overwrite, trim, and move clips, many at once. “Tighten every cut by 8 frames” is one request.
- Add transitions, change clip audio levels, and adjust color.
- Read your selection. “Tighten the selected clips” works on the clips you picked.
- Move the playhead, select clips and set marks, to show you something.
The assistant can use the project’s takes and the files in your local bin. It can’t use photos and video from the project’s Media tab.
In the desktop app
The desktop app has its own Assistant panel. Click Assistant on the toolbar to open it. It has New chat, a list of past chats for the project, and a box that says Ask the assistant…. Pick its model in Settings, on the Assistant tab.
The assistant needs a project. Opened without one, the desktop panel says so instead of chatting. The browser editor at /cut has no assistant.
