Editor personalities

Choose which app CinemaCutter copies. The shortcuts and drag rules switch at once, and the choice follows your account.

Pick a personality

  1. Open Settings

Click the gear at the right end of the toolbar.

  2. Pick an editor

On the Editor tab, under Editor personality, click FCP, PPro, Avid or Resolve. The keys and the timeline rules change at once. Check which one is picked before you learn the keys.

The personality buttons in the editor's settings

Signed in, the desktop app, the project editor and /cut all start with the same one.

What changes

Each personality uses that app’s own keys as it ships. If the app has no key for a command, neither does its personality here.

Command PPro FCP Avid Resolve
Mark In I I I or E I
Mark Out O O O or R O
Insert , W V F9
Overwrite . D B F10
Lift ; none Z none
Extract ’ none X none
Blade ⌘K ⌘B none ⌘B
Snapping S N none N
Match Frame F ⇧F none F

The timeline rules change too:

Mode Drag a clip Delete Drag an edge
PPro Overwrites where it lands. ⌘-drag inserts. Leaves a gap. ⇧Delete closes it. Trims. Use the Trim tool to ripple.
FCP Lifts the clip out and slots it in where it lands. The Position tool drags without closing gaps. Closes the gap. Ripples.
Avid Clips don’t drag freely. Use the Splice or Overwrite segment mode button. Snapping starts off. Leaves a gap. ⇧Delete closes it. Ripples.
Resolve Overwrites where it lands. There is no insert drag. Leaves a gap. ⇧Delete closes it. Trims.

Change a key

  1. Find the command

In Settings, on the Editor tab, scroll to Keyboard. Type in Filter commands… to narrow the list.

  2. Record a new key

Click the key next to a command, then press the new key. If that key already runs another command, the row says Also runs and names it.

  3. Undo a change

Click ↺ to go back to the personality’s key. Click ✕ to leave the command with no key. Reset all undoes every change for this personality.

Changed keys are kept for each personality and follow your account.

Settings in your account also has a Keybindings page. It picks the same personality and shows some of its keys. To change keys, use Settings inside the editor.
