Columns, the top sheet and suggested rows

Allow is Rate times x. Savings is Allow minus Actual, in red when you’re over. Faded rows are locations, crew, characters and wardrobe the budget doesn’t cover yet; click one to add it.

Line item columns

  1. #: the line number. It’s the department code with a count added, so lines in 210 run 2101, 2102 and on.
  2. Description: what you’re paying for. A line tied to a team member shows that person’s role here.
  3. Unit: DAY, WEEK or FLAT. It labels the line and doesn’t change the math.
  4. Rate: the cost of one unit, in US dollars.
  5. x: the multiplier. Use it for the number of days, weeks or items.
  6. Allow: Rate times x. You can’t type in it.
  7. Actual: what it really cost. Leave it blank until you know.
  8. Savings: Allow minus Actual. It turns red when Actual is higher.

Department and top sheet totals

Each department header shows its total. The Top Sheet Summary gives every department one row, with a Grand Total at the bottom. Actual and savings only appear once some line has an actual cost.

Suggested rows

The app checks your project for things the budget doesn’t pay for yet. Each one shows as a faded row in the matching department, and the top sheet marks that department with +N unbudgeted. Click a faded row to add it as a real line, tied to the thing it pays for.

From Goes to Starts as
Each location 320 Locations The location’s daily rate, times the days its scenes need at 3 pages a day
Each team member Their department, by name The day rate set for their position, times the shoot days on the schedule
Each character 130 Cast Flat, $0
Each wardrobe item 290 Wardrobe Flat, $0

Once a line is tied to a location, team member, character or wardrobe item, that thing stops showing as a suggestion.

The Cast department with ten lines, then faded rows for the characters it does not pay for yet

Suggested rows only land in the standard departments, by code. If you renumbered your departments, a suggestion with no matching code won’t show.

Deleted lines

Deleted lines don’t count toward any total. Show Deleted lists them, struck through, so you can restore one.
