Building the cast
Import makes a character for every name that speaks. Each one gets a default wardrobe look. Combine merges names that are the same person, and Sides builds a script of only that character’s scenes.
Where characters come from
Importing a script makes a character for every name above a line of dialogue. It links each one to the scenes they are in.
Every new character also gets a default wardrobe look, so there is a costume to work on from day one. See Wardrobe.
To add someone the script doesn’t name:
Start a new character
On the Characters tab, click + Add Character.
Fill it in
Name is required. Description is optional.
Save
Click Save. The character and a default wardrobe look are both created.

The character row

Next to the name are the number of scenes the character is in and their total page count. A lead with 4 1/8 pgs has more screen time than a walk-on with 1/8 pgs.
To edit the description, click the grey text under the name. The list screen covers Describe, Generate and select mode.
Merge one person’s names
Scripts call the same person different things: JOHN, JOHNNY, MR. REYES. Import makes a character for each.
Tick all of them in select mode and click Combine. Keep the name you want. Every scene link moves to that one character, and the others are deleted. The steps, with a picture, are on the list screen.
Sides
Sides makes a script that holds only the scenes this character is in. It opens in the script editor, titled with their name and - SIDES, ready to print or send to the actor.
The button appears once the project has a script. If sides already exist for that character, a window asks whether to Load Existing or Regenerate them.
