Your first project

Press + New Project on the dashboard and give it a title. Then open Scripts and press Import Script. One file fills in your scenes, characters, locations and wardrobe, already linked.

The dashboard

Your Projects on the dashboard, with one card per project

Each project card shows its title, format, genre, member count, status and the date it last changed. Click the title to open the project on the tab you last used. Team opens that project’s team list below the cards. Scripts jumps to its Scripts tab.

The sidebar holds Projects, Settings, Guides, your credit balance, AI Assistant, a light and dark switch, and Sign Out.

Create a project and import a script

The New Project form with Title, Description, Format and Genre
  1. Create the project

Press + New Project. Only Title is required. Description, Format (Film, Series, Short or Commercial) and Genre are optional. Press Create Project.

  2. Open Import Script

Open the project, go to the Scripts tab and press Import Script. Drop a .fountain, .fdx, .pdf or .txt file on the window, press Browse Files, or paste the text with ⌘V.

  3. Check what it found

The review has four tabs: Scenes, Characters, Locations and Props. Each shows how many rows are ticked out of how many it found. Untick anything wrong. Back returns to the file picker.

  4. Import

Press the import button. It names the scene count, as in Import 12 Scenes. The summary lists the scenes, characters, locations and wardrobe items it made, and the links between them.

Each scene now knows who is in it and where it happens. The Scripts guide covers the import in more detail.

No screenplay yet? Each list tab has its own add button, and CinemaWriter lets you write one in the app.

The project header

  1. Click the title to rename the project.
  2. AI Assistant opens the chat panel.
  3. Connect Device shows a code that signs a phone or tablet in to this project. Only people who can edit the team see it. See Team & Access.
  4. Show Help turns on help mode, covered in Stages, tabs and help mode.
  5. The date changes with the stage: Start in Development, Wrap in Production and Release in Post-Production. Click it to set or clear the date. A countdown shows next to it.
  6. Design picks the active production design, and the models it uses show beside it.
  7. Each count in the bottom row links to its tab: Scenes, Characters, Locations, Storyboards, Wardrobe and script pages.
  8. The coin at the right is your credit balance. It reads Buy credits when you are low.

What belongs to your account

Projects don’t share data. A character named JOHN in one film has nothing to do with a JOHN in another.

Your plan, credits, model choices, stage tab order and timeline keys belong to your account. They are in Settings.

Deleting a row in a list tab hides it. Show Deleted brings hidden rows back into view so you can restore them. Deleting a whole project works differently. See Data & Export.
